The Soothe Skincare Company began with a question we could not answer about products we already owned.
Hives, Now what?
Our daughter broke out in hives covering half her body.
We did what most of us would do. Google'd it, made dietary changes removing all the top allergens. Oatmeal baths, antihistamines, a different laundry detergent, a different soap. We boxed up everything she started using in the previous month. She missed a week of school, our family's focus switched to problem-solving, and it took about two weeks of working down the list before we landed on the answer…
Slow Learners
Her shampoo. Organic lavender shampoo. She used it every day for a year with no problem.
We passed over it twice. Natural, that feels safe. A year of use, seems like a proven product. Those were the two reasons why we never checked it. They were also the reasons behind the problem
A year later we got the slow version. Natural deodorant, sounds healthy. but after 6 months, a painfully aggressive rash appeared. We went after her diet first (slow learners). Gluten free for a stretch, no change. Then we recognized the pattern.
The stories could go on, but here is what all of that actually taught us, and it is not that natural products are dangerous.
Natural is A category
Natural is a category, and a category is a promise someone else made. A promise is not information. The front of a bottle sorts the world into good for you and bad for you, and the drugstore aisle runs the same play with a different promise. The back of the bottle is the only place anything valuable gets said, and most of us never have a reason to look.

Go pick up whatever you used this morning. Count what’s in it. Then see how many of those you could explain to another person, not the name, but what it is doing in there. For most products, the natural ones included, the honest answer is none of them. That is not carelessness. Labels are not built to be understood. They are built to be trusted.

We are committed label readers now. Reading is the only way to know anything about what really goes on your skin. That standard runs the whole operation. Soothe Salve has five ingredients: organic beeswax, unrefined shea butter, virgin coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil, and wild-harvested sweet birch. Ask about any one of them and you get a straight answer about what it does and why it is there.
That is the entire promise.
